Prof. J. Devika

is a historian and social critic. She currently researches and teaches at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram as a Professor. She has contributed to the history of gender, development, politics, and culture of modern Kerala. She is the author of En-gendering Individuals: The Language of Re-forming in Twentieth Century Keralam (Orient Longman 2007), Womanwriting=Manreading? (Penguin 2013) and the co-author of New Lamps for Old? Gender Paradoxes of Political Decentralisation in Kerala (Zubaan 2012). She has translated K. R. Meera’s short stories and her novel Hangwoman (Penguin 2012), the short stories of Sarah Joseph (Oxford 2012), and the memoirs of Nalini Jameela (Westland Books 2007) from Malayalam into English.
