Vellore Institute of Technology was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by the

Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan. VIT attracts students from all the 28 states and 8 Union

Territories of India and about 60 different countries. VIT has been placed in the 9 position in

'University Ranking', and 18 position in 'Overall Ranking' as per the recently published NIRF –

India Ranking 2022. Globally, VIT has been placed at 346 rank, in the world based on the QS
World University Ranking 2022. VIT is the first institute of India to receive QS 4-Star rating in

overall category and QS 5-Star rating in teaching, employability, facilities, innovation and

inclusiveness. The research capabilities of the faculty and students are clearly evident based on
the consistent track record in terms of the highest number of SCOPUS-indexed publications. VIT

has completed 4 cycles of NAAC accreditation and has recently received the A++ status
(Category 1 institution). ABET has accredited 14 programs in VIT. VIT is one of the top 10

institutions of India and within the top 601-700 Universities of the world as per Shanghai
(ARWU) Ranking of World Universities 2022. Apart from this, VIT has also been globally

recognized and ranked by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking (801-

1000), US News World University Ranking (902), Round University Ranking (669) and others.
VIT has also been recognized as an Institution of Eminence by Government of India.

VIT has introduced many innovations in the academic process which add value to each and

every student. Such innovations include the Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS) as well as

Project-based Learning (PBL), which enhances the learning experience, apart from fully
digitized academic portals. All these improvements are geared towards improving the

entrepreneurship and employability of the students to meet the demands of prospective
employers. Also, VIT has forged links with several academic, research organizations, and

industries in India and overseas. This effort has enabled the faculty and students to improve the
visibility of the academic and research activities.

VIT Group of Institutions offer 66 Undergraduate, 58 Postgraduate, 15 Integrated, 2 Research
programmes and 2 M.Tech Industrial Programmes. In addition, full-time Ph.D. in Engineering

and Management disciplines, Ph.D. in Science and Languages and Integrated Ph.D. programmes
in engineering disciplines are also offered.
