Protein expression refers to the way in which the proteins are synthesized, modified and regulated in an living organisms. Since the study of proteins is more complex than the study of genes, the ability to express functional proteins enables researches to study them more easily in laboratory condition.

One of the most important techniques is western blotting, that is used to detect and to study about the expression of a specific protein.
