Project Description

The recent demand for sustainable production of food with minimal environmental impact requires modern technologies that facilitate and automate the field phenotyping. The initial target crops for this project are ginseng (ashwagandha) and cabbage which are commonly cultivated plants due to its medicinal value and their high economic values. The conventional methods used for monitoring these plants are often destructive and complex in nature. Moreover, these methods are difficult to implement in the large fields. In the past few years, many researches have been carried out in non-destructive sensors for monitoring the biotic and abiotic stresses. Recently, the plant traits identification and stress monitoring system has been benefited from the advancements in Artificial Intelligence technologies.

The main objective of this proposal is to develop an Artificial Intelligence based Field Plant Phenomics System for cabbage and ginseng plants that provide actionable knowledge for field crop management.
