Project Description

India is an agrarian country, produces a variety of food crops and vegetables in large potential. Large amount of biomass sources like sugar cane, rice husk, wheat husk, plant leaves, forest residue, a variety of grasses, etc., are available in India seasonally. These biomass sources can be used in Hydrothermal Liquefaction process to produce biogasoline and biocrude fuels for power generation through standby units to fulfil the rural and small scale industrial requirements. Hence the proposed research is focused on hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass in the presence of suitable catalysts under pressure and temperature. Further, the lighter fractions obtained in the gasoline range (Biogasoline) and the heavier fractions obtained in the diesel range (Biocrude) will be tested in both Spark Ignition and Compression Ignition engine conditions for its performance, combustion and emission characteristics.
