Project Description

Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes describes a group of metabolic diseases which cause high blood sugar levels. In recent years, diabetes has become one of the leading causes of deaths worldwide. There are several procedures and techniques for diabetes analysis. These procedures can be put in to two categories – invasive procedures and non-invasive procedures. Nadi Pariksha or the pulse diagnosis is a comprehensive non-invasive method, which helps to reach the root cause of health issues. This forewarns about potential health risks and is done using the signals obtained from the three precise locations on the wrist at the radial artery using the index, middle and ring fingers. The index finger corresponds to Vata, middle finger to Pitta, and ring finger to Kapha. Here, three flexible pulse sensors based on Triboelectric Nanogenerator (TENG) principle will be used to detect three different pulses Vata, Pitta and Kapha over the radial artery at the wrist. From these waveforms we intend to detect glucose level in a particular person thereby detecting diabetics. The sensor fabricated with the above process will be interfaced with a proper signal conditioning unit thereby amplifying and filtering the signal obtained from the Nadi. These filtered smooth signals will be uploaded to the cloud and pattern recognition will be done to identify the presence of the disease. The outcome of the experiment is the development of an IoT based sensor which has the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human assistance and for future analysis of patient’s record.
