Establishment of DBT Rural Bioresource Complex at Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu” focuses on the Ramanathapuram District of Tamil Nadu which is basically a dry and industrially backward area with a majority of the fisherman and rural families living in poverty and food insecurity that aims to generate entrepreneurs through the transfer of technologies viz., recycling of fish waste to value added products – PlanktonPlus for aquaculture and HortiPlus as manure for agriculture, Vermicomposting, Production of chitosan from sea shell and fish scales, and backyard poultry production for the upliftment of rural livelihood. The project duration is for 2 years which will be implemented in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Chennai and ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) with Vellore Institute of Technology as leading Institute. The aspirants for entrepreneurship will be trained, handhold & provided market support. The total number of beneficiaries to attend sensitization program is 2400. Of which, 1320 are women, 442 from SC, 4 belong to ST and OBC 1954. The number of potential aspirants trained for entrepreneurship in this project is 240. Of which, 130 are women, 44 from SC, 2 from ST and 194 from OBC.
