MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR

It gives me immense pleasure to present the Institutional Development Plan
(IDP) of Vellore Institute of Technology, a strategic document that exemplifies
our collective vision for excellence in governance, administration, teaching,
research, innovation, collaboration and community engagement. The IDP is a
reflection of the university’s vision of transforming life through excellence in
education and research, by aligning with national and global academic
standards and development goals, and the evolving needs of society and
industry.

In today’s dynamic educational landscape, universities are expected not only
to impart knowledge but also to create new knowledge, shape responsible citizens, foster
entrepreneurship, and build bridges between academia and the real world. This Institutional
Development Plan is both a plan and a stimulus aimed at nurturing a culture of academic rigor, research
intensity, digital readiness, multidisciplinary learning, industry alliances, community engagement and
sustainable institutional growth.

The groundwork of this IDP has been a profoundly collaborative and data-driven endeavour, involving
a thorough assessment of our present capabilities, critical analysis of the gaps, challenges and
opportunities. It incorporates insights derived through our past experiences and projects our aspirations
for the future with realistic yet ambitious goals.

I would like to express my profound gratefulness to all committee members who have worked with
unwavering dedication and intellectual commitment to articulate this plan, and my deep appreciation
to the IDP Editorial Sub Committee for their meticulous efforts and dedication. Their hard work has
been instrumental in ensuring the quality and clarity of the final document.

A special note of thanks to all those faculty, administrative and non-teaching staff members who
enabled the data gathering and in validating past academic and research data, and their contributions
have lent credibility to this document.

The IDP is a living document that will guide policy decisions, academic reforms, and institutional
investments in the years to come on the basis of short term, Mid term and long term. It is our collective
responsibility to ensure that the spirit and strategies outlined here are translated into measurable
outcomes, leading to an ecosystem of excellence, equity, and innovation for all the years to come.

Let us all strive and sail forward with a shared sense of purpose and possibility, committed to setting
the bar higher always, and dynamically raising the full potential of our institution, to become a globally
recognized Institution of higher learning.
