EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

                Vellore  Institute  of  Technology  (VIT),  established  under  section  3  of  the  University  Grants
            Commission (UGC) 1956, was founded initially as Vellore Engineering College (VEC) in the year
            1984. VIT Chennai off-campus was established in 2010. During its journey of 40  years, VIT has
            become a beacon of excellence in higher education through academic, research and community-related
            experiential strengths. VIT has emerged as a top-tier university in India, earning recognition through
            prestigious national and international accreditations and rankings. VIT has been reaccredited by NAAC
            with an A++ Grade and a CGPA of 3.66. Over the past five years, VIT has consistently secured top
            positions in the NIRF Rankings released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In 2024,

            VIT has been ranked 10  in the University category, 11  in Engineering, 13  in Research, and 19
            Overall. Internationally, VIT is ranked in the 501–600 band in the Shanghai Rankings (2024), 601–
            800  in  the  Times  Higher  Education  Rankings  (2025),  and  791–800  in  the  QS  World  University
            Rankings (2025).

            The  National  Education  Policy  2020  (NEP  2020)  guided  VIT  to  undertake  the  Academic  and
            Professional Excellence journey through adherence to the regulations and guidelines. NEP 2020 is
            implemented  currently  along  with  Sustainable  Development  Goals  (SDGs),  the  National  Credit
            Framework (NCrF) and integration with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), among other anchors.
            VIT seeks to transform higher education by focusing on skill-based education to meet the needs of the
            industry and the economy. VIT enunciates that Quality Higher Education Institutions need to enable
            an individual to study one or more specialized areas of interest at a deeper level and also develop
            character, ethical and constitutional values, intellectual curiosity, scientific temper, creativity, spirit of

            service and 21  century capabilities across a range of disciplines, including Sciences, Technology,
            Social Science, Arts, Humanities, Languages as well as professional, technical and vocational subjects.
