VIT First 3D Printed Modular Talus Prosthesis
VIT First 3D Printed Modular Talus Prosthesis implanted at CMC Hospital, Vellore with the support of VIT’s 3D Printing lab.
A patient-customized 3D printed modular prosthesis of the talus, an important bone needed for walking, was designed and prototyped with the help of VIT’s Printing lab and the surgical implantation was performed by a team of Orthopaedic surgeons at Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Vellore.
As 3D printing has shown promising applications in many fields of medicine, making patient management more effective, a Metal 3D printer has been installed at 3D printing lab of VIT, Vellore under the guidance of Dr. Anand A Samuel Vice-Chancellor of VIT along with Dr Vasudevan. R, Dean, School of Mechanical Engineering (SMEC) and Dr. A. K. Jeevanantham, Head of Department of Manufacturing Engineering.
