School of Social Sciences and Languages

Established as a distinct entity in 2009, the School of Social Sciences and Languages (SSL) employs innovative teaching methods and adopts interdisciplinary approaches to learning. The school helps students gain knowledge and skills that are required in the global market. It adheres to the highest standards in teaching-learning by employing innovative practices, ensuring excellence in research, and by adopting rigorous internal peer and student review. The school maintains an outstanding record of awards for excellence in teaching within the VIT community and in the broader higher education context. It is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and a team of 135 excellent faculty members with commendable research capabilities. The school offers Bachelor of Commerce B.Com -General, B.Com -Banking and Capital Markets, B.Com -Financial Technology, B.Com -Business Process Services and Master of Social Work (MSW) programme. Ph.D. programmes are offered in Commerce, Economics, Social Work, Tamil, English, Psychology, Sociology and Hindi.

Department of Social Sciences

The department offers courses on Social Sciences: Economics, Psychology, Sociology, History, Political Science and Music for UG programmes of both engineering and non-engineering disciplines to enable students with holistic development to avail career and entrepreneurial opportunities across the globe. The Postgraduate programme of Master of Social Work (MSW) was introduced in 2021 with specializations in Community Development, Medical and Psychiatry and Human Resource Management (HRM).
The Department also offers minor programmes in Economics and Finance. In addition to that Ph. D programmes in Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, History and Political Sciences are offered.

National youth Social Architect Competition 2025

We live in a society which is continuously designed and shaped up by leaders of the past and present. Our society had many great social thinkers who influenced the society. We have largely benefited from their dreams for the society. It is time that we engage early on with the youth of the nation, foster social thinking and empower them to design and architect the society with compassion the way they want it for themselves and for the future generations. Material and economic advancements are crucial for the society. However, the social developments cannot be ignored or compromised. A society which is economically sound, inclusive -addressing the concerns of vulnerable population on a continuous basis and protecting and promoting environment will lead to sustainable living. This competition aims to promote social thinking among the youth and innovate in designing and architect society that is more sustainable.

Objective

To promote social thinking and design with compassion among youth for creating sustainable and harmonious society.

Events for Social Architect

Product Display (Products with social impact, Technology Designs and APPs), Short videos (3 minutes), Posters, Rangoli, Mime, Street Play and Variety Entertainment.

Themes for Events Design of Society

Children, Women, Elderly, Disability, Sustainable Development, Community Mobility or Transport, Human Rights, Education, Health, Financial Inclusion, Agriculture, Social Entrepreneurship, Employee relations, Democracy and Vulnerable Population.

You can choose any of the themes listed above for the events. However, the teams should not repeat the themes for all the events. For each event the team should choose a different theme from the list given.

Participants

Any one - UG / PG / Research Scholars can register for the events.


Judges for Events

The Jury will consist of members from various disciplines.


Food

Refreshments and Lunch will be provided to the participants.

The Registration fee per participant is Rs.100 - (including GST)

List of Events

Short Videos

Three Minutes short videos on the themes given can be created. The selected videos will be can be screened and presented. The best of three videos will be awarded.

Posters

Three Posters on any of the themes given can be made by each team. Posters will be displayed in the exhibition. The best of the three posters will be selected by the judges and will be awarded.

Rangoli

Participate can design sustainable society using any of the themes given. The best of three Rangoli will be awarded.

Mime

Mime on any of the themes can be performed to design and architect sustainable society through your performances. Each team gets seven minutes to perform. The best of three Mime performances will be awarded.

Street Play

A team can participate in a Street Play on any of the themes given above and display your social thinking and design. The best of three performances will be awarded.

Variety Entertainment

A team can participate in the variety entertainment event. Performances can include dance, skit, signing etc. Each team gets 10 minutes to perform. The best of three will be selected and awarded with a trophy and certificates.

Events & Rules

  • Each of the events carries three prizes: 1st prize Rs.2000, 2nd prize Rs.1000, 3rd prize Rs.500.
  • Trophies and Certificates will be given to top three places in each event.
  • Videos should be original.
  • The originality should be maintained in all other events.
  • No materials for the events will be provided by the organizers. The teams need to bring in their own materials for all the events.
  • Any violations of copyrighted materials or duplication of products will lead to disqualifications.
  • The violation of rules and regulations will lead to disqualification. The decision of the Jury is final.
  • The Organizers reserve all the rights to manage the events.
