ABOUT INSA

The Indian National Science Academy (INSA), originally established as the National Institute of Sciences of India (NISI) in January 1935, is the premier scientific body in the country, dedicated to promoting science and harnessing scientific knowledge for national development and human welfare. Its foundation was the result of collaborative efforts led by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) and other scientific bodies. The Academy was inaugurated in Calcutta and functioned from the Asiatic Society of Bengal until it shifted to New Delhi in 1951. Recognized by the Government of India in 1945 as the representative body of Indian scientists, INSA was later designated in 1968 as the adhering organization to the International Science Council (ISC). The name was officially changed to Indian National Science Academy in 1970. Today, INSA plays a crucial role in advancing scientific excellence, fostering international collaborations, publishing scientific journals, and shaping science policy in India.

ABOUT INYAS

The Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), established in 2014 under the aegis of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), is the first and only national young academy in India, dedicated to representing the voice of young scientists across the country. It brings together early-career researchers and professionals from various scientific disciplines, providing a dynamic platform to promote innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and public engagement with science. INYAS actively advances science education, outreach, and policy advocacy, playing a vital role in the nation’s scientific progress. Its core objectives include encouraging science communication and outreach, especially among students and rural communities; supporting interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring for young researchers; advocating for the inclusion of young scientists in national science and technology policy discussions; and organizing workshops, training programs, conferences and awareness campaigns to bridge the gap between science and society. As a vibrant arm of INSA, INYAS also partners with international young academies, thereby enhancing India's global scientific presence and fostering cross-border collaboration.
