Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by the Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan. VIT attracts students from the all the states of India and more than 51 different countries because of its academic excellence.
VIT has introduced many innovations in academic processes which adds value to every student. FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System), PBL (Project Based Learning) for better learning, fully digitized academic portals that assist students in equipping which kindles the interest and the curiosity of students, which molds them to be better problem solver, 8th module in every subject being handled by industrial experts, making the students contextualize the concepts they study in the classroom, are a few of the innovations that VIT has introduced.

South Indian History Congress (SIHC)

South Indian History Congress was founded at a conclave of historians at the School of Historical Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai - 625021, on 2nd December 1978 with Prof. K.K.Pillay as first President and Prof. K.Rajayyan as founder General Secretary. It was registered under the Societies Act at Madurai in 1979 with Reg.No.32/1979. The Central Office of the Congress is established at School of Historical Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.
The first inaugural conference of this Congress was held at Madurai Kamaraj University Campus in February 1980. Thereafter annual sessions of the Congress were held at different universities and colleges of South India.

44th Annual Session of the South Indian History Congress

The 44th Annual Session of the South Indian History Congress, to be held at VIT, Vellore, provides a scholarly platform for historians, researchers, and students to present and discuss recent developments in South Indian historical studies. The scope of the conference spans diverse themes including political, social, economic, cultural, and religious history, alongside historiography and maritime studies. It seeks to encourage interdisciplinary approaches, highlight new research methodologies, and bring to light the contributions of South India within the broader canvas of Indian and global history. By promoting dialogue between established scholars and emerging researchers, the conference aims to promote critical inquiry, preserve South India's rich heritage, and strengthen academic collaboration in the field of historical research.

Registration Details

Registration

  • The registration fee shall be paid only online.
  • Payment can be done through the following link- https://events.vit.ac.in/, available on the website www.southindianhistorycongress.org
  • Delegates are requested to make the payment before registration through the online link available in the portal and start the registration process with the details of the payment made.
  • To ensure smooth registration and submission of research papers, all delegates are required to register their names and submit their research papers exclusively through the online platform available on our website. www.southindianhistorycongress.org before 30 November 2025.
  • No Spot Registrations.
  • Delegates registered for the last two sessions (2023,2024) can retrieve their data by entering their registered mobile number. These delegates can view/download their previous SIHC certificate from the portal.
  • The following documents are needed to complete the registration process for new delegates:
    • Photograph of the registering Delegate
    • SIHC ID card or any other Photo ID Card
    • Details of the Delegate Fee Paid
    • Research Paper (in Word format only)
  • The delegate fee will be collected online through the registration portal. We strongly encourage you to pay in advance to help us better arrange food and accommodation facilities. This will ensure a more convenient and well-organised experience for all participants.

Submission

  • All papers presented in the conference, selected by the executive committee, will be published in the Conference Proceedings Volume undertaken by SIHC.
  • The research paper should be neatly typed, approximately eight pages in length, double-spaced, with endnotes in Word format.
  • Endnotes should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper and placed at the end of the document.
  • The full paper shall strictly follow the style manual published on the SIHC website.
  • Only papers in English will be considered for inclusion in the Proceedings Volume.
  • A small abstract in one hundred words and a list of keywords are to be shown at the beginning of the research paper.
  • Papers that do not follow the style manual will not be considered for publication.
  • Papers received through the portal on or before the due date will be given precedence for presentation.
  • A member shall not be permitted to present more than one paper.
  • All submitted papers will undergo a 'Plagiarism Check' before being selected for publication by the Executive Committee.

Best Paper Awards

The South Indian History Congress has instituted the following Best Paper Awards.

  1. Kasturi Misra Memorial Young Historian Award (For the best paper presented in all the five sections by scholars below the age of 45 -forty- five)
  2. Prof. Peddarapu Chenna Reddy & Dr. Subhashini Best Paper Award (For the best paper in Social History Section, without any age restriction)
  3. Dr. P. Balagurusamy and Mrs. R. Uma Best Paper Award (For the best paper presented in all the five sections, without any age restriction) Those who wish to have their papers considered for awards must submit a hard copy of their paper, clearly mentioning the name of the award on the envelope, to the following address:
