Objectives of the Practice 1. To enhance the e-content dissemination to the end-
users to support their research, teaching and learning. 2. To provide anywhere,
anytime access for VIT subscribed e-resources to the patrons. Principles and
concepts The e-resource of the library is enabled by RemoteXs portal on a
single platform with single sign-in options and cloud-based technology. The
resourses in the RemoteXs egateway portal are available in various categories
such as publisher wise and A-Z title wise The e-resources includes e-journals,
e-books, e-databases and e-thesis subscribed by VIT. RemoteXs provides secured
access for all digital resources using registered email ID. The students,
faculty and staff can access the e-resources on and off campus using their
personal devices or the digital facility inside the campus. The library also
has a digital facility with 120 computers and wifi connection. Core Benefits
Patrons need not wait for e-mail authentication from the respective
institution’s mail server. Multi-layer access control will help to prevent
robotic download and unauthorized access to the content and only valid users
can consume the subscribed e-resources. Other facilities such as notifications
for SDI, user’s manual and guides that can upload under the downloadable
format. Design and Implementation Process Central Library had subscribed for
all the e-resources through institutional IP addresses and ranges. Out of that
CMIE and SciFinder Scholar databases requires an individual membership
registration for accessing their content. Apart from that Library has a stand-
alone server having British Standard Euro Codes. The Library has to provide the
combined services with all the e-resources in a single platform The publishers
and vendors removed the existing institutional IP addresses and ranges at their
end and the cloud-based IP was used for the creation of portal
https://egateway.vit.ac.in/. Members were registered using the bulk upload and
a welcome e-mail was sent from the server end with a password set link. The
members were enabled to set their own strong password with alpha, numeric,
character, and symbol for better security. The web-link was also provided on
the library home page. Outcome Remote access has enabled the library to create
own digital library portal in an efficient manner. The usage of remote facility
by graduate students and research scholars has increased overtime as it saves
time, ease of use, and availability 24/7 It is possible to track the usage
analytics that represent behaviors and downloads. Individual members and
department/school wise usage reports in graphical and tabular presentation can
be taken from the administrator’s dashboard. Apart from other facilities such
as publishers wise, resources wise usage reports. Bulk member’s registration
and cancellations facility enables addition and deletion of names batch wise
during admission and course completion It has saved on the infrastructure
investments such as server and other related hardware types of equipment and
maintenance costs related to e-mail servers, internet bandwidth and IP address
and ranges registrations charges. The Management Information System helps in
optimizing budget allocation towards the electronic resources subscriptions
i.e. ROI 3. The Context Contextual Features The platform has the ability to
provide secured access to scattered e-resources of the institution bringing
them under one umbrella any time anywhere 24/7. The major advantage is the cost-
effective cloud-based service model with both on and off-campus access. The
console-based user management system is available in the admin dash board. The
admin portal is user friendly with features like bandwidth monitoring of the
end-users, prevent robotic downloads and auto-check for system abuse. It is
possible to download user statistics and category wise usage and download
reports. This is helpful in monitoring and analysing the usage of resources.
The admin dashboard allows the administrator to easily send the system-
generated e-mail messages such as welcome e-mail, password reset, custom
messages and usage statistics reports etc In the portal, the library and
publishers can display videos, PPT presentations, images, articles, events, and
webinars etc. 4. The Practice Uniqueness The egateway access portal facility
customized for on and off campus access was designed and implemented for the
