               Action Points

 Impart subject-focussed training to the faculty through the present practice of FDP –

this exercise would require the preparation of a road map, so that the process would be more
               systematic

 Encourage the faculty to attend conferences of truly international stature
 Encourage the faculty to involve in international collaborative research, making use of

the provisions offered by various funding agencies

 Impart training to non-teaching staff in chosen areas, with a view to make them
capable of assisting VIT in organizing Conferences, Workshops and other academic activities

 Finally VIT’s strategy to recruit more faculty from abroad would foster interaction

with teachers and scientists of international calibre, which in turn would enrich the faculty
               substantially

               10. Alumni Engagement
VIT has a strong alumni network across the globe. VIT has 84,573 registered alumni and 52

alumni chapters in India and abroad. VIT Alumni Association (VITAA) is regularly
                                                                                    th
organizing the chapter meetings. VIT celebrates alumni day on 26 January every year.
However, the association has many challenges to meet the current requirement of the
institute. VIT needs to reach the top 500 universities of the world as the target set by the

Govt. of India. Alumni involvement in institutional growth is an urgent requirement. It is

essential to restructure VITAA, new policies need be framed, need to welcome new
generation alumni. VIT needs to adopt the best practices of successful alumni associations in

India and abroad. Diversified sources of income are essential for making a world class
university. It is not possible to make great university based on only tuition fees. Suggestions

from Alumni in this regard are essential. Alumni can create an awareness of VIT all over the
world – in industries and academic institutions. VITAA leaders need to speak on this very

frequently. Connectivity between alumni and campus need to be improved.

Primary strategy is to engage alumni in all activities of VIT and set goal. VIT will seek ideas
from alumni to improve the activities of VIT including collaborations, generation of funds

for R&D activities,, infrastructural and other developments. Alumni need to play a significant

role to promote VIT’s reputation across the globe.
