The quality of human beings in an organization determines the success of that
organization. The improved skills, attitudes and productivity can only be possible

through adequate training of the human power. Taking this as the cue, VIT’s
strategy for the development of manpower is based primarily on the premise that
staff skills need to be improved for organization to grow. In view of the changing
environment in all spheres of knowledge seeking (in terms of teaching learning
process and pursuance of research) and the emerging challenges being faced by
the centres of higher learning, VIT is trying to have a fresh look at the existing
capacity building measures with a view to further strengthen the institutional
mechanism, as it is attaching tremendous importance to the management and
development of its manpower. For transforming the VIT system into an ever-
growing phenomenon, it is imperative to move to a strategic human resource
management system, which would look at the individual as a vital resource to be
valued, motivated, developed and enabled to achieve the institute’s mission and
objectives. During, this transformational process, it is essential to match

individuals’ competencies and bridge competency gaps for current and future
roles through training. Competencies encompass knowledge, skills and
behaviour, required in an individual for effective discharge of their functions,
demanded by the position in question, besides leadership, financial management,
people management, information technology, project management and
             communication.

Keeping the aforesaid facts in view, VIT has been affording training (both
formally and informally) to the faculty members and the supporting staff in such a
way as to bring up the institute on par with the top-ranking centres par excellence

in the world. The imparting of training is also aimed at implementing the reforms
in consonance with the Governmental policies and in tune with the country’s
development. Accordingly, a number of regular programmes for the development
of faculty competencies (referred to as Faculty Development Programme, FDP)
are being offered by VIT. It is worth mentioning that participation in FDPs is
open and mandatory for all the faculty members, irrespective of their
specialization, so that their competency levels would improve holistically.
