                                                             th
Life Support (BLS) was organized on the 27 of November, 2019. Dr. G. Priya, Associate
Professor, Emergency Medicine, CMC, Vellore and Prof. T.S. Ravikumar, former Head,
Emergency Nursing, CMC, Vellore served as the resource persons for the workshop. BLS is a

level of medical care which is used for victims of severe illnesses or injuries until they can be given
full medical care at a hospital. It can be provided not only by trained medical personnel but also by
            qualified bystanders.

Dr. Priya shared her knowledge on basic life support (BLS) and advanced life supports
which are the most important determining factors of successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR). Prof. Ravikumar explained and demonstrated first aid that is required to be given to a

victim in the absence of required equipment. He also spoke on how not to panic and how to handle
victim's during emergency. A demo on CPR, an emergency procedure that combines chest
compressions with artificial ventilation to manually preserve brain function and restore

spontaneous blood circulation, breathing in a victim who is in cardiac arrest was given using
student volunteers. Dr. Priya also answered to many queries related to menstrual gynecology. The
event was much appreciated and very useful to the participants.
