Dedicated to fundamental and translational research, VIT offers quality
research training experience for its students. VIT has established itself as a
research intensive institution; it maintains its relevance to world-class research by
networking with industry and business through national and international
collaborations.
Over a brief period of time after attaining the Deemed to be University status
in 2001, VIT has ascended to the expectations of Government organisations,
research institutes, mission-critical organisations like Defence establishments, the
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Atomic Research Centres.
Fostering excellence in research supported by highly competent staff is reflected
in the demand for entry to Vellore Institute of Technology's programmes by top
students. In the pursuit of excellence in education, VIT considers research as the
central theme and mobilizes the available knowledge resources. The Strategic
Plan for research envisages fostering and encouraging the faculty members to
engage into transformational and translational research in order to address the
societal challenges confronted by India today, in various pertinent domains.
Research accomplishments at VIT are headed for addressing problems in
critical and key areas to make a significant impact at the national and global level.
With collaborations from industry-based partnerships, as well as from national
and international collaborators, our research focuses on translational aspects.
Since its initiation, VIT is steadfast in encompassing its powerful research output
to benefit the society and create economic prosperity, converting discoveries into
patents, products, services and companies. Breakthrough research, patenting,
licensing, industrial collaboration, business incubation, and collaboration
envisage VIT’s research innovation system. A patent cell to facilitate the
researchers to file their patents and explore their research and Sponsored
Research cell to inspire the faculty by providing seed funds to kick start their
ideas to products and publications has been introduced. In addition, to laboratory
research, the institution has established TBI (Technology Business Incubator)
with the support of Department of Science and Technology, Government of
India., This TBI assists budding entrepreneurs by providing space, start-up funds
for incubates, with infrastructure support, technology/ prototype development
support. VIT is working towards more spin-off companies.
