DNA DAY 2015

Over 300 students took part in a function to mark World DNA Day organised by the division of Biomolecules and Genetics, VIT University recently.

VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan gave a brief talk on DNA and hereditary diseases like diabetes and many more. Participating in the valedictory function, Radha Saraswathy,

Senior Professor, School of Bio Sciences and Technology, VIT University, said the university with the help of State government conducted awareness programme on diabetes at various villages in Vellore. People who attended the camp underwent blood tests and were briefed about the causes for diabetes, she said.

The university also conducted competitions and debates for students on the occasion. A total of 150 persons including 120 Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers and 30 YRC Programme Officers from different universities and colleges in Tamilnadu participated in the four-day State Level Training-cum-Study Camp for YRC Volunteers and Programme Officers at VIT campus recently.

The event was organised by the YRC of VIT University in association with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). The camp was aimed at guiding the students, YRC volunteers and programme officers towards the right path in life and a healthy lifestyle. The camp taught the volunteers their responsibilities towards society.

VIT vice-president G V Selvam inaugurated the camp. IRCS-TN vice-chairman D A Prabhakar delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants.
