Vellore, August 15: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan on Sunday (August 15, 2021) said that with the savings system being followed in Indian families India has the potential to become one of the World’s richest countries.
Delivering his speech after hoisting the national flag during the Independence Day function at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore on August 15, 2021, Dr. G. Viswanathan said that India has the potential to become one of the richest countries in the world. “Our people are working hard and we have strong family bondage, savings system being followed in our families. This will take us above all other countries,” he said.
Dr. G. Viswanathan urged Centre and State Governments to accord more priority to education, especially higher education in the country. “Whatever growth takes place in our country it should reach all sectors of the society. Centre and State Governments should provide higher education to all people. Government should give priority to education, especially higher education,” he said.
Recalling the sacrifices made by several freedom fighters for Indian independence, Dr. G. Viswanathan said that several leaders like Gandhiji, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Mahakavi Bharathiyar had contributed a lot to Indian independence.
“People should recall the great sacrifices done by several thousands of freedom fighters to get independence for our nation,” he added.
Later Dr. G. Viswanathan inaugurated a photo exhibition organized jointly by VIT and Desiya Chinthanai Kazhagam commemorating 75th year of Indian Independence, 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s Memorial Centenary year.
Delivering his special address through video conferencing, Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that youngsters can learn a lot from the life of Mahakavi Bharathiyar like how they should be courageous.
Dr. L. Murugan said that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was one of the leaders who created an impact among youngsters in the freedom struggle.
The union minister also recalled the contributions made by several leaders and freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu including Veerapandia Kattabomman, Poolithevan, Tiruppur Kumaran and Mahakavi Bharathiyar in the Indian freedom struggle.
VIT Vice President Mr. G.V. Selvam, Vice Chancellor Dr. Rambabu Kodali, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. S. Narayanan and Registrar Dr. K. Sathiyanarayanan were also present during the function.
