Off-Campus Water Conservation Support

Off-campus water conservation support involves extending water-saving activities beyond institutions to local communities, companies, and individuals. Key strategies include raising awareness through educational campaigns, promoting water-efficient technologies, collaborating with local governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), advocating for policies that support sustainable water use, participating in hands-on local projects, and establishing networks for sharing best practices. VIT initiates assist communities in reducing water usage, protecting freshwater resources, and promoting long-term sustainability by encouraging public participation and collaboration in water conservation efforts.

The various schools in VIT support this goal by conducting awareness among local people. One such event is World Environmental Day Awareness Programme organised on 06.06.2023. School of Civil Engineering (SCE) and Centre for Sustainable Rural Development and research studies jointly organized a world environment day 2023 in creating of awareness among village community people on climate change and preservation of Green activities.

The Banner provides Environmental Awareness and following Environmental Sustainability week in the village named Serkadu during 5th and 9th of June 2023.

The participants were from Serkadu Village, Vellore and the professors from VIT enriched them with the knowledge on sustainability.

School of Civil Engineering has organized “Environmental Sustainability Week” from 5th to 9th June 2023, on the occasion of World Environment Day (#Beatplasticpollution). Mr. Dharanipathy, Chief Engineering Manager, EDRC, L&T Chennai were the Chief Guest of the Inaugural function. The next day, a team from SCE and CSRD conducted an awareness programme about plastic pollution, at Serkadu Village, Katpadi. Also, saplings were given to local people during this programme. On 7th June 2023, Dr. Ketheesan Balachandran, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Jaffna University, Sri Lanka gave a Guest Lecture on various wastewater treatment processes. Later, on the same evening, a Poster Presentation competition was conducted for our VIT students. On the 4th day of the Environmental Sustainability Week, kids of VIT faculty and staff members participated in the Elocution competition which was followed by the Valedictory function.

VIT by its self-initiative plans for keeping the city clean and hygienic with water-smart practices, make efforts to place informative posters and digital displays in common areas, showing the importance of saving water and easy ways to do it.

b) Social Media Campaigns

VIT never misses the chance of disseminating the knowledge for social cause especially when it comes to emphasize the wise utilization of natural resources. VIT’s social media platforms are used to share daily water-saving tips, facts, and success stories about water conservation efforts on campus.
