CPR Training Event at SHINE: A Life-Saving Experience
The School of Healthcare Science and Engineering (SHINE) recently hosted an impactful CPR training program for its students and faculty, aimed at equipping participants with essential life-saving skills. This event was jointly organized by Dr. Narmada from Nalam Medical Centre and Hospital and Dr. Joseph Vettukattil, a renowned cardiologist and Professor of Practice at VIT. Their combined expertise and dedication made the session both engaging and educational.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) through a hands-on training experience. Attendees were introduced to the DRSABCD action plan—a crucial framework for performing CPR. This acronym stands for Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, Compressions, and Defibrillation. Each step was thoroughly explained and demonstrated, ensuring participants grasped both the theoretical and practical aspects of CPR.
A key highlight of the session was the use of mannequins, which provided participants with an invaluable hands-on experience. These realistic training mannequins allowed attendees to practice critical CPR techniques, such as chest compressions, rescue breathing, and proper hand placement. The use of these tools enabled participants to simulate real-life cardiac emergencies in a safe and controlled environment, ensuring they gained both confidence and competence.
Dr. Narmada emphasized the importance of quick and correct action during cardiac emergencies, highlighting how CPR can double or even triple a person’s chances of survival. Dr. Vettukattil added real-world insights from his experience as a cardiologist, sharing stories that underscored the critical role of CPR in saving lives.
The event was a resounding success, leaving attendees not only better prepared to respond in emergencies but also inspired to raise awareness about the importance of CPR. The collaborative effort of SHINE, Nalam Medical Centre, and VIT demonstrated a shared commitment to health education and community welfare.
