5 Teams from VIT qualify for the finals of NASSCOM – IBM All India Hackathon

NASSCOM FutureSkills in collaboration with IBM organised a national level Hackathon which was open to all university students and their mentoring faculty members with an objective to find innovative solutions to deal with the COVID-19 socio-economic crisis in the country.

Hackathon kick-started on 25th April, wherein NASSCOM invited STEM students across India to participate and build practical and effective solutions using technologies such as Cloud, Data & Artificial Intelligence. The objective of this hackathon was to look for innovative solutions to solve for India’s biggest challenge in the present construct, the national socio-economic crisis caused by COVID- 19 pandemic.

Winning ideas(Students teams) will be mentored by IBM for the Global Challenge – Call for Code. The ideas also will be recognised by NASSCOM and winning ideas will be communicated to the Government for execution at Scale. Each of the winning student team members of IBM Global Challenge will receive the opportunity to interview for a potential role at IBM

Students from more than 500 Institutions PAN India across 26 States and Union Territories with 26,478 registrations participated in the Hackathon.

Evaluation is in progress and 16 top submissions are short-listed. The final round of evaluation is in “Shark Tank” style (based on popular TV series – Shark Tank) whereby team will pitch idea, solution to a panel of investors (Sharks) and persuade them to invest in their idea.

Out of the Top 16 short listed teams., 5 teams are from VIT representing all the 4 campuses have been short listed for the final presentation and evaluation.

Out of these 5 teams, 2 teams were from Vellore Campus and one each from Chennai, Amaravati and Bhopal Campuses. . The Final Results will be declared on 8th of Jun, 2020.

  • a facemask detector tool, which can alert the users that they are forgetting their mask when they are going outside.
  •  a website integrated chat-bot named as MIKE which will provide the information regarding covid-19,
  • a GUI which contain a music player for good  working environment, weather reporter to tell you the outside weather, and this application also provide basic info about corona and its symptoms and if user faces any given symptoms then he/she can provide information here and govt. authorities can contact him/her and will provide medical help accordingly.
  • Face recognition application which will notify the user about who is standing at the door step (if their facial data should be present in the database

This chat bot uses IBM cloud services for providing reliable service to the users in the basis of any time,  any where and any person.

Developed “Coviddesk “is a one-stop destination for all the Statistics related to the number of cases in India, Updates from the Government and Ministry of Health, a Self-Assessment for COVID-19, a multi-lingual Voice Assistant to give a better experience to searches, a Help Station to post requests and get help from other users at your place, with a feature of commenting on posts and view one’s requests as well and finally all the official guidelines by WHO to be followed during the pandemic period.
