SHINE MedTech Hub | VIT–IAMRAI Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering
The VIT-IAMRAI Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology is a flagship initiative of the School of Healthcare Science and Engineering (SHINE)’s MedTech Hub at VIT Vellore, established in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Medical Research and Innovation (IAMRAI), Hyderabad. Together, SHINE and IAMRAI are driving India’s next generation of indigenous medical technology – from cardiovascular devices to intelligent neurorehabilitation systems.
Cardiovascular Device Manufacturing
Two medical-grade braiding machines (2 crore, sponsored by IAMRAI) enable indigenous production of nitinol wire-based stents and heart valve devices – reducing import costs from *10-15 lakh per unit and advancing the ‘Make in India’ mission in critical healthcare.
Advanced Medical Imaging & Visualization
A proprietary CT/MRI volume rendering system integrated with Voxellence – a glasses-free 3D visualization platform backed by IAMRAI – supports pre-surgical planning, clinical education, and patient communication without any wearable devices.
BCI-Controlled Robotics
A Brain-Computer Interface robotic arm driven by EEG and CVEP neural signals enables hands-free robotic control for neurorehabilitation and assistive applications. The necessary equipment worth 40 lakhs was funded by VIT.
Biomechanics & Gait Lab
An omnidirectional treadmill, funded by VIT, supports gait analysis, movement disorder research, and rehabilitation protocol development in a naturalistic environment.
"Neuro" - AI Assistant
Neuro, the lab’s in-house Al avatar, provides interactive guidance across BCI, biomechanics, medical imaging, and AI/ML – serving as the intelligent face of the MedTech Hub.
Inauguration
Declared open by Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, and Prof. Joseph Vettukattil, Director, IAMRAI.
