Strategic Partnership between the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Advancing Data Science through Collaboration
VIT and the Data Informatics and Innovation Division (DIID), Ministry of Statistics and ProgrammeImplementation (MoSPI), formalised a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was formally signed and exchanged by Mr. R. Rajesh, ADG, DIID, MoSPI & Ms. Madhura Roy, Director, DIID, MoSPI, and Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT & Dr. Sandhya Pentareddy, Executive Director, in the presence of Dr. T. Jayabarathi, Registrar; Dr. K. Karthikeyan, Dean, School of Advanced Sciences and other faculty members. It establishes a strategic partnership, engaging VIT as a knowledge partner in MoSPI-led Digital initiatives, aiming to foster collaboration in sensitising and involving students, faculty, and researchers, in solving real-world challenges in official statistics faced by the Ministry.
The Key Areas of Collaboration are:
- Workshops & Hackathons: Jointly hosting events to promote practical learning and innovative problem-solving in data analytics and statistics.
- Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating regular interactions between ministry officials and academia to share expertise.
- Capacity Building: Enhancing the abilities of students and faculty to address contemporary issues in statistics and analytics.
- Internship Opportunities: Exploring avenues for VIT students to gain hands-on experience through internships with MoSPI.
This partnership bridges academic research and government needs for innovative solutions, leveraging VIT’s talent pool for addressing use cases in official statistics and offering students meaningful exposure to national data science projects. Through collaborative projects, workshops, and research, both MoSPI and VIT aim to build an ecosystem that supports knowledge-driven progress and prepares future leaders in statistics and analytics. By joining forces, MoSPI and VIT set the stage for impactful collaboration in data science education, research, and application. The MoU promises a vibrant environment for innovation, knowledge exchange, and real-world problem-solving that benefits both institutions and the broader community.
