VIT Inaugurates Student Council 2025-26 with Focus on Ethical Leadership and Diplomacy

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) formally inaugurated its Student Council for the 2025-26 academic year today, with a ceremony highlighting the importance of ethical leadership, values, and diplomacy. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. G. Dharmarajan, I.P.S., Deputy Inspector General of Police, Vellore Range, and the Guest of Honour, Ms. Vallikannu K., Product Manager at Infosys, and a distinguished alumna of the Class of 2007.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a tree planting initiative by the esteemed guests, followed by a ceremonious procession of the newly elected student council members. The event was also graced by Dr. Sandhya Pentareddy, Executive Director of VIT, Dr. Kanchana Bhaaskaran, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Jayabarathi T., Registrar.
In his address, Dr. G. Dharmarajan, I.P.S., stressed the urgent need for ethical leaders in the world’s largest democracy. He challenged the council members to embody courage and strong values, urging them to build a lasting legacy for both the institution and the nation.
Ms. Vallikannu K., who was the first female president of the VIT Student Council, shared her inspiring journey and fond memories. She commended VIT’s leadership for its unwavering commitment to principles of equity and ethical conduct. Her speech focused on VIT’s organisational culture, which emphasises morale, empowerment and relational contracts, and she expressed profound gratitude for the life lessons the institution instilled in her.
Dr. Sandhya Pentareddy, Executive Director, engaged with the council members on the true meaning of leadership and the critical role of “Diplomacy” in their new responsibilities. The Vice Chancellor and Registrar also addressed the gathering, emphasising the rights and responsibilities of the Student Council at VIT. The event concluded with the newly elected members taking their oath, administered by the Director of Students’ Welfare, and receiving their official badges.
The Student Council 2025-26 consists of a diverse group of 119 members, including 39 Executive Members and 80 Member Secretaries, with a near-equal gender balance of 61 female and 58 male members.
