About Automotive Research Centre

The Automotive Research Centre (ARC) at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a hub for cutting-edge research in automotive engineering. Established in 2005 with funding from DST under the FIST scheme, ARC concentrates on innovative internal combustion engine combustion analysis, electric vehicles (EVs), and autonomous vehicles to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry. The centre, initially part of the School of Mechanical Engineering, separated in 2016 to enhance its research capabilities and infrastructure, boasting facilities worth over Rs. 3.87 crore.
Overall, ARC at VIT plays a crucial role in advancing automotive engineering through its focus on innovation, sustainability, and technological advancements in both traditional internal combustion engines and cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technologies.

ARC Auto Expo 2026

The Automotive Research Centre (ARC), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) successfully organized Auto Expo 2026 on 25th March 2026 (Wednesday) at Greeno Foodys, VIT.

The expo was honoured by the gracious presence of our Honourable Dr. Sankar Viswanathan, Vice President; Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President; Dr. V. S. Kanchana Bhaaskaran, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Partha Sharathi Mallick, Pro Vice Chancellor; and Dr. Jayabarathi T, Registrar. They appreciated and encouraged the innovative efforts and research contributions of both faculty members and students.

The event featured 16 exhibition stalls, including 3 industry stalls, 8 Faculty Product Development Grant (FPDG) stalls, and 5 VIT student stalls. A total of 29 innovative projects were showcased across these stalls, highlighting advancements in automotive technologies, sustainable mobility, and engineering research.

The expo also welcomed participants from Kingston Engineering College, Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, and C. Abdul Hakeem College. With an overall footfall of more than 500 participants, the event provided an excellent platform for visitors to explore cutting-edge innovations, interact with researchers, and gain valuable insights into the latest developments in automotive engineering.

To recognize outstanding contributions, faculty and student projects were evaluated by an expert panel, and awards were presented to the best projects based on their performance and evaluation scores.

  • Developed Syngas fuelled gen-set engine for rural application with   minimum power derating.
  • Team develops novel multi-fuel technology to run spark-ignition   engines either on CNG or LPG.
