Vellore Institute
of Technology
VIT was established in the year 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by Dr.G.Viswanathan, Founder & Chancellor. The institute was upgraded as a university in recognition of its academic excellence in 2001 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. VIT today comprises of twelve constituent schools and interdisciplinary centers offering 24 undergraduate, 30 postgraduate and research programs up to Ph.D. level. With the aim of providing quality higher education at par with international standards, VIT persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods in teaching and learning. The university has students from all corners of the globe, nurtured by learned and experienced faculty. VIT has signed Memoranda of Understanding for the exchange of students and faculty, research collaborations and consultancy activities with various international universities, research organisations and industries. VIT University is the first Indian institute to get international accreditation from IET, UK, and NAAC, India. All B.Tech programmes at VIT are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, USA. VIT is also ranked as No.1 private engineering institute by MHRD (NIRF-2016 ranking).

School of Architecture strives to be a centre of excellence in architectural planning education and research focused towards socially sensitive individuals equipped with design and technology process and realisation ability to contribute responsibly to the changing needs of natural and built environment. The institution promotes the intents of Indian society particularly the culture and resolving economic challenges through intelligent and responsible thought processes. While supporting a vibrant, self-aware and confident student community, capable of independent thinking and analysis and setting targets for achievement borne out of deep self-respect.
VALUE 2020
Over the last two decades architecture is blending into a new era of technovation (technology + innovation). Architects as urban designers and planners need to keep pace with the technological innovations and advancement that form an integral part of the built environment. Since technological trends exert a profound impact on the way we live, there is a strong need to accommodate both physical dynamics and market dynamics. The key question that surfaces here is whether tech-fueled urban planning alone can solve social and economic problems. Can smart city technologies improve the quality of life? What is the city that we want to create in the future? As the world continues to urbanize it is extremely crucial to link every aspect of urbanization with sustainability. The concept of "liveability" has emerged alongside "sustainability" as a buzzword in public discourse and planning. Liveability is intrinsically linked to spatial, social inclusion, the economy, health and well-being and sustainable technologies.

Dr. Geeta Mehta
Geeta Mehta is an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She has worked on design projects in over 12 countries in Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. Geeta has also developed the concept of Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) inspired by carbon credits. This breakthrough virtual currency for social good is currently in use in India, Ghana, Kenya and in Washington, DC. SoCCs incentivise people to undertake projects in water and waste management, tree planting, neighbourhood improvements in their communities and earn SoCCs.

Dr. Marc Aurel Schnabel
Professor Marc Aurel Schnabel is the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Professor in Architectural Technology at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and Visiting Professor at School of Architecture, Sheffield University. He is Principal Investigator of the National Science Challenge, Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities, researching in the fields of augmented- and virtual reality, digital heritage, parametric design learning and intelligent cities. He publishes extensively internationally about novel perspectives in digital architecture and urban design. He curated two digital architectural exhibitions, Disparallel Spaces at Tin Sheds- and 8448cubedat Gaffa-Galleries, and chaired several international conferences.

Prof. Wong Nyuk Hien
Prof. Wong is currently the Deputy Head in charge of academic matters and professor in the Department of Building, School of Design and Environment. He graduated with a B.Sc (Building) (2nd Upper) in 1985 and a Master degree in Building Science in 1991 from National University of Singapore. Wong was the principal investigator of a number of research projects related to Urban Heat Island, urban climatic mapping and greenery, in collaboration with the various government agencies, such as Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), National Parks Board (NParks), Housing Development Board (HDB), National Environmental Agency (NEA) and Building Construction Authority (BCA). Prof. Wong was also one of the key Principle Investigator for the development of the first Zero Energy Building at BCA Academy. Prof. Wong has published more than 300 international referred journal and conference papers and was the co-author of 9 books and has been invited to deliver keynote papers and research findings in various conferences and symposiums

Dr. Mohd Hamdan Bin Haji Ahmad
Prof Dr Mohd Hamdan Ahmad is currently the Dean of Faculty of Built Environment (FABulous), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the UTM Director of MIT UTM Malaysia Sustainable Cities Program (MIT UTM MSCP). His research expertise includes sustainable cities and architecture design, building climatology, smart cities and architecture education. He is also a green building promoter and consultant affiliated to GreenRE, Casbee Iskandar Malaysia, GBI and prominent judge for Green Accord Initiative Award (GAIA).

Dr. Sandeep Agrawal
Dr. Sandeep Agrawal is an urban and rural planner and director of the Planning program in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Prior to this appointment, he was Graduate Program Director and Associate Director in the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson University, Toronto, where he taught for 14 years. Dr. Agrawal has published many refereed papers and professional reports, edited a journal and co-authored a forthcoming book “Planning in India”, to be published by Oxford University Press. His recent research works have focused on high density rural areas in India, funded by Indo-Shastri Foundation, where lack of water and rural to urban migration are the two key factors leading to high poverty and in some instances, modern-form of slavery, controlled through access to water.

Prof.AR.Hans-Christian Wilhelm
AR.Hans-Christian Wilhelm is currently working as senior lecturer at School of Architecture, Victoria University of wellington. He is a graduate in Diplom-Ingenieur Architektur – from Technical University Darmstadt (Germany).In additions to varied projects across the globe, his research interest revolves around pre-fab construction concepts in architecture and furniture design. Dr. Rohit Jigasu
Rohit Jigyasu is the UNESCO Chair professor at the Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan where he also serves as scientific coordinator International Programme on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage. He is also the President of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) and ICOMOS-India. He is also senior advisor at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) based in Bangalore, India, and visiting faculty at several institutions in India and abroad. He has served as consultant to Archaeological Survey of India, National Institute of Disaster Management, Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS), UNESCO, UNISDR, UNDP, ICCROM, Aga Khan Planning and Building Services and the Getty Conservation Institute for conducting research and training on Cultural Heritage Risk Management.

Ar. Diwakar Chintala
Over the past 22 years, Diwakar has designed projects in the United States, the Middle-East, China and India. His design process involves challenging preconceived notions about buildings and typologies and starting with a “clean-slate” and developing concepts based on logic, context and the aspirations of the users. "Style and aesthetics" are purely a consequence of this creative process. From designing high-rise buildings such as the second tallest building in the world, to developing the $1,500 House, his work has acknowledged the impact of the built-environment on human behaviour often offering a minimalist approach to design. Diwakar's work spans designs for several products, a furniture line, graphic design, video documentaries and User Experience. He has designed complex building types including super-tall, high-rise, commercial, institutional, residential and low-cost housing in the United States, China, Middle East & India.

Known for various awards and honors, Prof.V.Devadas has done his Ph.D on development planning from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. His areas of interest focus on Urban and rural development planning, Dynamics of Urban, rural and regional fabric, Development planning on infrastructure, Sustainability ,financial and resource management. Ms. Pallavi Kulkarni
Ms. Pallavi Kulkarni is working as Lead Urban Designer – Planner with Padeco Co. Ltd. She has completed Masters in Architecture with specialization in Urban Design from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She has worked on diverse projects from urban conservation, landscape design, master planning and design to urban transport and multimodal planning, transit oriented developments. She was associated with the project management team of Mumbai Monorail Project for MMRDA, Navi Mumbai Airport Influenced Area Development Plan for CIDCO, Metro 3 Project in the recent years and has thorough experience in Transit influenced planning projects like station area redevelopment and upgradation, Multimodal Integration, transit-oriented developments. She has been visiting faculty with the Master’s Program in Urban Design at Pillai’s College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai and has special interest in mentoring students and young professionals. She is the member of National Executive Council of Institute of Urban Designers India and Secretary of IUDI Mumbai Center.
