CBCMT VIT along with SHINE VIT organised a very informative ‘One-day Workshop on Translational Biomedical Research’ on 14th July 2025, where the participants interacted with reputed scientists Dr. Manoj Komath Dr. Anil Kumar PR Dr. Sachin J. Shenoy from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. Participants developed a comprehensive understanding of the translational research pipeline in biomedical sciences.

Our CBCMT VIT had the privilege of hosting Dr. Adi Idris (Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia) for informative lecture on Developing RNA-based gene targeting therapies against viruses.

CBCMT VIT and SHINE VIT jointly organized Quality Week on Feb 26-27, featuring exciting competitions like the Kaizen Challenge and Buzzword Blitz, centered on the theme “From Compliance to Performance. “A major highlight was an insightful talk by Prof. Mamilla Ravi Sankar, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Tirupati, on “Effect of Micromachining and Nano finishing on Biomedical Implant Performance.” His expertise shed light on the crucial role of advanced manufacturing techniques in improving biomedical implants.

Our CBCMT VIT had the privilege of hosting a delegation from Yenepoya University, Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. This visit marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between our institutions to address trending healthcare challenges and develop innovative technologies for the betterment of society.

The event, held on 8th and 9th January 2025, welcomed school students from classes 9 to 12 to explore the fascinating world of science, technology, and healthcare innovations.

We are happy to inform you that the VIT School of Healthcare Science and Engineering (SHINE) and the Centre for Biomaterials, Cellular and Molecular Theranostics (CBCMT) are organizing an “International Two-day Hands-on Training and Workshop on the Isolation and Characterization of Extracellular Vesicles for Biomedical Applications-ExoVIT-24 on 24th -25th OCT 2024 in our VIT Vellore campus.

CBCMT and SMEC at VIT have successfully conducted a five-day workshop on ‘Bioinspired Surfaces’ by Prof. Ketul Popat from George Mason University. Participants gained valuable insights into biomimicry, surface engineering, and nanotechnology.

Our CBCMT at VIT has invited our esteemed alumnus, vasanth gopal, to deliver a guest lecture titled “My PhD Leading to an Instrument Development”. We jointly organized this lecture with the VIT Alumni Association (VITAA). CBCMT is proud of Dr. Vasanth’s remarkable research in Biotribology, Implant-Coatings, and Instrumental development as a postdoctoral fellow at the University West, Sweden.

We are pleased to announce a five-day workshop on ‘Bioinspired Surfaces’ by Prof. Ketul Popat, Chair and Professor, Department of Bioengineering, George Mason University, US. The workshop is co-hosted with the School of Mechanical Engineering (SMEC) and CBMT at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.

1. We are happy to have our PhD fresher’s induction program on 11 August 2022 at our CBCMT. We welcome our newbies to our family to learn with us, grow with us, and shine to fly out with beautiful colors. CBCMT motivates our scholars to be crazy enough to think and curious to know and creative enough to apply them to make their scientific journey more interesting. With this note we welcome our scholars and wish them all the best for their wonderful journey of seeking knowledge ahead with us!

2. Centre for Biomaterials, Cellular and Molecular Theranostics (CBCMT), Vellore Institute of Technology, India, has organized a 5-day Faculty Development Program on “Interdisciplinary Translational Science and Engineering” in July 18-22, 2022, in hybrid mode.

3. The advancement in microscopy techniques has indeed made biological research attain the next level. With an objective to gain a better understanding of these techniques, CBCMT (VIT) and Olympus India has organized a webinar on “High resolution and high-speed three-dimensional microscopy imaging and quantitative image analysis using Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, on 7th July 2021.

4. Glad to inform you that a team of researchers from our center “Center for Biomaterials, Cellular and Molecular Theranostics” (CBCMT) participated in a Pan Indian flagship event hosted by TATA STEEL and had won the event by bagging a cash price of INR. 5 Lakhs. The event focuses on identifying research talents and strengthening the portfolio of advanced material research and its translation.

Visits

CBMCT Researchers visits second largest hospital in Vellore The researchers from CBCMT lead by Prof. Geetha Manivasagam visited Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre, second largest hospital in Vellore. The researchers visited various vibrant departments such as Neurology, Orthopedics, Dental care, Urology, Cancer center, Sri Sakthi Amma center for biomedical research to name a few, in the hospital and their infrastructural facilities were also shown. Many collaborative ideas were brainstormed and future collaborative projects were discussed.

Researchers from CBCMT visits Dr.KM Cherian’s Frontiers Mediville: A state-of-the-art research facility in Tamil Nadu. CBCMT researchers visited India’s first Medical Science Park, developed by Frontier Lifeline Hospitals & Dr. K.M. Cherian Heart Foundation – Frontier Mediville, Gummidipoondi to have collaborative meetings and have a look at their infrastructural facilities to engage in future collaborative projects. The team, led by Dr. Arunkumar Palaniappan, Assistant Professor with CBCMT initiated the trip after an initial virtual dialogue with the esteemed cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. K.M. Cherian to ascertain the current challenges towards clinical translation. The research park is well equipped with Universal testing machine (UTM) and leakage testing apparatus to study mechanical integrity of tissue replacement or medical devices such as gloves and masks. A small electrospinning instrument is located within the tissue engineering laboratory. The facility also houses necroscopy laboratory, pathology laboratory, electrophysiology unit, microscopy room and chemical laboratory with fume hoods. As part of GLP and GMP, Man Material Movement is adhered to strictly. Clean rooms can be accessed through air showers, with access to sterilized material through an autoclave located in a separate room. Cell culture facility of the research park is state-of-the-art, including a Class 3 biosafety cabinet to work with viral particles. Their research complex houses a variety of cell culture cabinets to allow work on cell cultures. The facility is designed to conduct both large and small animal studies.

• Dr. Arunkumar Palaniappan delivered an invited talk titled “Bioengineering strategies for cardiac tissue regeneration- an overview” in an international workshop on Heart Failure, Artificial Heart and Growing Organ in a Dish at Dr. KM Cherian Institute of Medical Sciences, Umayattukara Road, Kallissery, Chengannur, Kerala 689124, on 12th June 2022.

• Dr. Arunkumar Palaniappan delivered an invited talk titled “Bioengineering strategies to mend broken heart” in an international conference on Biotechnology and Information Technology in Drug Discovery and Development (ICBITDDD 2022), organized by Annamalai University, Chidambaram on 26th June 2022.

• Dr. Arunkumar Palaniappan delivered an invited webinar talk titled “Engineered Cardiac Tissue – A potential 3D tissue model for drug screening applications and a tool for cardiac tissue regeneration” was delivered in the Institute for Biomaterials, Tribocorrosion and Nanomaterials (IBTN), Chicago, USA, 21st July 2022.

• Dr. Loganathan Rangasamy delivered an invited lecture on ‘’The emerging role of small molecules in targeted cancer therapy’’ at Government Arts College, Coimbatore. April 19, 2022.

• Dr. Loganathan Rangasamy delivered a guest lecture on ‘Small molecule Drug Discovery’ at Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, on March 29, 2021.
