VIT School of Design (V-SIGN) was established in 2016. Master of Design (M.Des.) was launched in the year 2016 and Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) was started in the year 2018. V- SIGN offers UG & PG programmes from Department of Industrial Design.

In V-SIGN, the Department of Industrial Design creates young designers with skills, knowledge and competence to enable the professional practice of designing products and services used by people every day.

The school trains the students with a 360-degree experiential learning in all aspects of design. Our curriculum is aimed at instilling knowledge with competencies in creating products for the future.

Master of Design (M.Des.) 2 Years Programme

The two-year program in Master of Design provides opportunities to develop design sensibilities by working hands-on for designing varied products across wider spectrum of domains ranging from Toy design, Consumer products, crafted artefacts, smart products, Healthcare Products, Furniture, Mobility, and other evolving domains.

The students learn the current methods and execute best practices to design sustainable products inclusive by nature and sensitized towards the aspects of circular economy. Students are trained in digital products such as User Experience Design (UxD) and Interaction Design as these are emerging career path to pursue further. The students can specialize in the areas such as Sustainable Product Design, Product Semantics, Ergonomics, Space Design, Mobility Design and Artificial Intelligence.

Do I need to appear for VITMEE if I have a valid CEED 2026 score?

No. Candidates with a valid CEED 2026 score are not required to appear for VITMEE 2026 (M.Des.). They must upload their valid CEED 2026 scorecard during the online application process. CEED candidates are also given priority during M.Des. admissions at VIT.

What is the eligibility for VIT M.Des.?

Candidates need a full-time degree of 10+2+3, 10+2+4, or 10+2+5 years in Engineering, Science, Applied Arts, Architecture, or Design from a recognized university, with a minimum aggregate of 60% or First Class. A minimum of 60% in Class 10 and Class 12 is also required. Applicants from Open University or Correspondence mode are ineligible.

What is the VIT M.Des. fee structure?

The M.Des. tuition fee at VIT is Rs. 1,76,000 per annum. The first year also includes a refundable caution deposit of Rs. 3,000, bringing the first-year total to Rs. 1,79,000. Fee refund policy follows UGC norms.

What is the selection process for VIT M.Des.?

Candidates are shortlisted based on VITMEE 2026 (M.Des.) score or valid CEED 2026 score. Shortlisted candidates are called for a one-on-one personal interview at VIT where their design portfolio is evaluated along with overall communication and presentation skills.

What is a portfolio and why is it needed for M.Des. admission?

A portfolio is a collection of a candidate’s original creative and design works. For the M.Des. personal interview at VIT, candidates are required to present their portfolio to demonstrate design versatility, creative ability, and communication skills. The portfolio is evaluated by the interview panel as part of the selection process.

What is the VITMEE M.Des. exam pattern and syllabus?

VITMEE (M.Des.) is a Computer Based Objective test. The detailed syllabus is published in the official VITMEE M.Des. syllabus document available on the VIT website. The test covers design aptitude and related areas.

What documents are needed for VIT M.Des. counselling?

Candidates must bring all original documents for verification, a set of photocopies, and a Demand Draft of Rs. 11,800 drawn in favour of “Vellore Institute of Technology” payable at Vellore. The advance counselling fee is non-refundable and candidates without the DD will not be permitted to attend counselling.

What specialisations are available in the VIT M.Des. programme?

Yes. Candidates appearing for their final degree exam or final semester exam in the current year are eligible to apply. However, they must produce the statement of final year marks and Provisional Degree Certificate before 14 August 2026, failing which admission will be cancelled.
