VIT Nokia 5G Lab

VIT Nokia 5G Lab

Overview

The 5G Lab, established under the School of Electronics Engineering (SENSE), is a unique lab developed through the VIT-Nokia collaboration. This 5G lab will provide an integrated environment for designing, implementing, testing, and validating IoT and wireless sensing applications. It will support simulation and emulation of 5G and future networks, with research focused on AI-enabled RAN and smart network management. The lab is well equipped with radios and antennas from Nokia connected to their core through a dedicated base station and optical fiber connectivity. The lab will investigate ways to reduce bandwidth constraints and improve spectrum sharing while providing reliable 5G core connectivity for end-to-end experiments. By combining these capabilities with Massive MIMO, the lab will enable students and researchers to assess network performance under controlled conditions and develop solutions for real-world applications. The facility of the lab provides an opportunity to extend the 5G capabilities to implement and test IoT and sensing-based IoT test cases. The lab provides a highly flexible and open architecture to perform learning and research. Into various domains where 5G can be exploited to enhance their functionality, like weather monitoring stations, biomedical applications, and Industry 4.0 based operations. The lab is also equipped with testbeds to deploy and test various use cases and applications in these domains.
