INTRODUCTION
“The Bachelor of Design also referred as B.Des or B.Design is an undergraduate academic degree deals with creating products that are functionally good, aesthetically appealing and ergonomically comfortable. World Design Organization defines industrial design as a strategic problem-solving process that drives innovation, builds business success, and leads to a better quality of life through innovative products, systems, services, and experiences”.
VIT School of Design (V-SIGN) offers one of the best facilities for design research, consultancy, training and growth for faculty members. The main objective of the programmes is to create a new breed of problem solvers in the domain of industrial design.
Already state-of-the-art studio / lab facilities have been created in a sprawling new building for teaching, training, model-making, prototyping, and experimenting. PROTICS Studio (PROduct aestheTICS), 3D-iD Studio with 30 iMacs, Smart PD Lab, Ergonomics Lab, and Painting Booth are some more facilities already established.
Our programmes would encourage contemporary design thinking and would give a wider perspective to the thoughts and ideas of tomorrow. Our programmes aim at developing skills, knowledge and aptitude among students so that they can bring about innovation in the product manufacturing industry. The students are trained to approach product design from a holistic viewpoint – integrating the aesthetics, ergonomics, and engineering in a balanced and harmonious manner.
Selection is based on qualified UCEED score/V-DAT(Design Aptitude Test)score with 10+2/HSC marks in the qualifying examination.
About UCEED
- UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design)Score is considered for admissions to the BDes program.

VIT-DAT (VIT-Design Aptitude Test)
VIT DAT is the exam for the candidates who have not attended UCEED exams or not having UCEED score.

VIT DAT - written exam of 2 hours duration consisting of objective type questions - MSQ & MCQ, short descriptive answers, and creative ability questions with no negative marking (Weightage 50%)

Portfolio - presentation of original creative works like sketching, drawing, painting, craft works, and photography, etc. (Weightage 30%)

- Candidates should register with a valid Email ID and Mobile number, as all correspondence will be communicated through these registered Email/Mobile number only.

Steps to be followed for online application
Register yourself by clicking on "Sign Up" (New applicant)
Verify your registered email address by using the OTP received from VIT.
Once OTP is validated, a password will be sent to your registered email address. Keep this email ID and password secure until the admission process is complete.
Fill out the online application form with required information. The list of Boards along with respective code is listed out in the Prospectus. The Board code of study in the qualifying examination should be mentioned accurately. In case of any discrepancy in the board filling on the application form and submission of relevant document at the time of admission will lead to cancellation of admission.
Pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs.1350 using Net banking, Debit card and Credit card

Result
- A rank list is prepared on the basis of 10+2/HSC marks and UCEED score/ VIT-DAT score (VIT-Design Apptitude Test ).
- The admission will be based on the merit and subject to meeting the required eligibility creteria.

Note:
All copies of documents will be archived and will not be returned for any reason.
The candidate should submit the qualifying mark statement from the board studied as mentioned in the application form for verification of genuineness at the time of admission. In case of submission of any fraudulent, incompetent certificate by the applicant will lead to action and the admission accorded will be duly cancelled and no refund will be initiated.
The qualifying examination mark statement submitted will be verified with the respective board.
Withdrawal Procedure
Candidates should give request for withdrawal only through online.
Exit formalities to be completed.
Date of application for withdrawal is the date of submitting clearance form(NO DUES FORM) through online.
Refund of Fees
The policy announced by AICTE / UGC, will be adopted, as and when announced.

The VIT Bachelor of Design (B.Des) is a 4-year undergraduate programme delivered at VIT Vellore under the VIT School of Design (V-SIGN).
UCEED is conducted by IIT Bombay for design programme admissions. VIT accepts a qualified UCEED 2027 score for direct B.Des admission. The final rank is based on the UCEED score and 10+2 / HSC marks.
VIT-DAT is the VIT Design Aptitude Test conducted at VIT Vellore for candidates who have not appeared for UCEED. It includes a 2-hour written exam, a portfolio presentation of original creative work, and a personal interview, all held on 05 June 2027.
Written Exam 50%, Portfolio Presentation 30%, and Personal Interview 20%. The written exam has multiple-choice, short descriptive, and creative ability questions with no negative marking.
Class 12 / 10+2 from a recognised board (CBSE, ICSE, State Board, GCE A-level, IB, or NIOS with 5 subjects) with a minimum 60% overall aggregate in any stream, plus a qualified UCEED 2027 or VIT-DAT 2027 score. A 10% relaxation applies to SC/ST candidates and those from J&K/Ladakh/NE States. Candidates must be born on or after 01.07.2004.
The tuition fee is INR 1,73,000 per annum, with a one-time refundable caution deposit of INR 5,000. The total first year fee is INR 1,78,000. The non-refundable application fee is INR 1,350.
The last date to apply online is 31 May 2027. VIT-DAT (written exam, portfolio presentation, and personal interview) is held on 05 June 2027 at VIT Vellore. Class commencement will be announced separately.

Age proof certificate (birth certificate or passport copy), Class 12 marksheets for all attempts, UCEED scorecard (if applying via UCEED), Community Certificate (for SC/ST), and Nativity Certificate (for applicants from NE States, J&K, or Ladakh). Original documents are submitted at the time of admission.
